 Dear Human Resource Professional:

Fairfax Circle Child Development Center, where I have been a teacher for the past seven years, closed down last month due to a change in the direction by the parent company, Fairfax Circle Baptist Church. I have a passion for teaching and I am interested in either a teaching position in your Head Start Department or an Instructional Assistant position at your school. I have taught both toddlers and preschoolers and have had opportunities to work with children with developmental issues (eg. selective mutism). I believe strongly that my rich experience and education would make me a great asset to your school.

Currently, I am enrolled in Northern Virginia Community College for an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Early Childhood Development, with an expected December 2012 graduation. Having completed 43 credit hours, I have been awarded the Early Childhood Development Certificate which is the fifth step on the Commonwealth of Virginia Early Childhood and Child Care Professional Development Career Lattice. Also I have maintained a 3.9 GPA on a 4-point scale and I will complete 48 credit hours by September. My work background and coursework have strengthened my understanding of child development, which in turn has helped me plan and implement creative, hands-on, and developmentally-appropriate lessons in a healthy learning environment to nourish the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of my students.

Additionally, my rich experience in a school that served a diverse middle-class population has developed my abilities to communicate effectively with parents, for example reporting successes, challenges and competencies of each student. I am sensitive to individual student’s needs and cultural backgrounds. I believe strongly that my rich experience and education, coupled with my nurturing, caring, energetic, flexible and team-player nature makes me uniquely qualified to join your team of dedicated educators. I have enclosed a resume that provides more details about my education and experience. I hope you will consider me as a candidate and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your consideration.

 Sincerely,

Nerissa Sampong
